About This Piece

“I created eleven 36″ tondos, porcelain enamel on steel. They appear both in the interior and on the exterior of the building. The site was originally Colorado’s primary orphanage; it was a working farm. The images portray animals, children, and vegetables. The project was an expansion of a smaller recreation center. Some of the orphanage’s original building are still being used. I chose to honor the children and their work. I worked closely with the architect to create the series, and to locate them in the architecture.” – John Boak
