About This Piece

Artists Bill and Mary Buchen’s ‘Global Rhythms’ consists of several interactive, musical sculptures. ‘Slapped Pipes’, ‘Drums’ and ‘Parabolic Benches’ create a unique sound environment that incorporates musical traditions from Native American, African, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Asian cultures, and engages children and families who frequent Green Valley Ranch Park. ‘Global Rhythms’ is integrated into a contemporary space for communal music making and education. In addition to the artwork, the Buchens developed an educational curriculum related to the sound sculptures for the adjacent Green Valley Ranch Elementary School.
