About This Piece

From the artist’s statement: “A Masterpiece in Stone” was designed to show the foothills in the back of the red rock formations as well as the rock itself. In the composition you will notice interlocking shapes to achieve unity. Kaplinski decided to show some autumn color which in its delicacy complimented the massive rock forms. The foothills with their softer form contrasted the angular rock cliffs and their rugged quality. The artist used a watercolor technique of a very wet sky in iridescent acrylic wash for luminosity.
